Ghana’s Inflation Sees Marginal Decline in April 2025

Inflation in Ghana for the month of April 2025 slowed slightly to 21.2 percent, down from 22.4 percent recorded in March. This marks the fifth consecutive month of decline since December 2024, signaling some relief in the country’s rising cost of living.

According to Dr. Alhassan Iddrisu, Ghana’s new Government Statistician, the reduction was primarily driven by lower food and non-food inflation, which both saw declines compared to the same period last year.

In his address during a news conference in Accra, Dr. Iddrisu highlighted the significant drop in inflation for locally produced goods, which decreased from 24.0 percent in March to 22.7 percent in April. This trend suggests a gradual stabilization of the economy, though challenges remain.

Despite the positive movement, Dr. Iddrisu urged continued vigilance in maintaining macroeconomic stability, recommending that the government take further steps to ensure sustained progress. He emphasized the importance of reinforcing policies that would continue to reduce inflation, especially in the wake of global economic fluctuations.

He also stressed the need for the government to preserve vital social intervention programs, such as the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP), the Capitation Grant, and the School Feeding Program. These programs, he noted, play a crucial role in safeguarding the purchasing power of the country’s most vulnerable populations.

“As inflation drops, the government must continue to protect the real incomes of the poor and vulnerable by maintaining social support programs,” Dr. Iddrisu stated.

The news comes as a positive signal for the government’s ongoing efforts to manage inflation, which has significantly impacted households across the country. However, experts believe that continued economic reforms and targeted support for low-income families will be essential in ensuring long-term stability.
