The government has approved the rehabilitation of roads within Achimota School and pledged to safeguard the institution’s lands as part of preparations for its centenary celebrations in 2027.
The announcement was made by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, during the Achimota Centenary Fundraising Dinner, Fashion Gala and the unveiling of the school’s centenary commemorative cloth in Accra on Tuesday, July 8, 2026.
Speaking on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, Mr Debrah said the government remained committed to preserving the legacy of one of Ghana’s most prestigious educational institutions through targeted infrastructure improvements and the protection of its assets.
He disclosed that approval had been granted for the rehabilitation of the road network within the school, describing the intervention as part of broader efforts to improve the learning environment and maintain the institution’s heritage.
“I am pleased to announce that approval has been granted for works to improve the road network within the school, alongside other interventions aimed at strengthening the learning environment and preserving the proud legacy of this great institution,” he said.
Mr Debrah stressed that the government would continue to collaborate with the Old Achimotan Association and the management of the school to address critical infrastructure needs while ensuring that Achimota’s lands remain protected for future generations.
He described Achimota School as a national institution that has, over the past century, produced outstanding leaders, professionals, innovators, academics and public servants who have made significant contributions to Ghana, Africa and the international community.
According to him, preserving the school’s physical assets is essential to ensuring that future generations continue to benefit from the institution’s rich educational tradition.
The Chief of Staff also appealed to alumni and stakeholders to sustain their support for the school through investments and active participation in its development agenda.
“The future of Achimota will depend on the continued commitment, generosity and active involvement of all who carry the spirit of the Black and Gold,” he said.
The event also featured the launch of Achimota School’s official centenary cloth, one of several activities marking the countdown to the institution’s 100th anniversary.
Founded in 1927, Achimota School is widely regarded as one of Ghana’s premier second-cycle institutions, with a distinguished record of producing generations of national leaders across politics, business, academia, science, the creative arts and public service.
