The Government has moved to calm fears among workers at the Damang Mine, assuring that no jobs will be lost as the state prepares to take over operations following the expiration of Gold Fields’ lease on April 18.
During a working visit to the site, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, reaffirmed that all existing contracts would be honoured and operations would continue without disruption. He noted that the transition process is being carefully managed to ensure stability and protect the livelihoods of workers.
The Minister, who toured the mine with Parliament’s Select Committee on Lands and Natural Resources, emphasised that the government’s priority is safeguarding employees and maintaining safe working conditions.
He added that the assurance reflects the commitment of John Dramani Mahama to protect workers and ensure a seamless transition of ownership, while laying the groundwork for future management of the mine.
Authorities say the measures in place are expected to prevent unrest and guarantee continuity in operations as the mine enters a new phase.
