The Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry has intervened to halt a planned increase in sachet water prices, offering relief to consumers across Ghana.
The decision follows engagements with key industry players, including the Ghana Plastic Manufacturers Association and the National Association of Sachet and Packaged Water Producers, who agreed to suspend the adjustment that was set to take effect on April 6.
In a statement, the Ministry framed the move as part of efforts to protect consumers and maintain market stability at a time of economic pressure, assuring the public that sachet water will continue to be sold at existing prices.
Authorities say the intervention is not just a temporary relief measure but part of broader efforts to balance industry sustainability with affordability for households.
To address underlying concerns from producers, the Ministry has scheduled an emergency meeting with stakeholders on April 8. The talks will focus on challenges within the sector and seek long-term solutions to prevent future price instability.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to close collaboration with industry groups to ensure that any decisions taken protect both businesses and consumers while sustaining confidence in the market.
