Chinese automaker Great Wall Motor (GWM) is stepping up efforts to improve after-sales service and parts availability in Africa, with Ghana emerging as a focal point of its expansion strategy. The move comes after the company inaugurated its Dubai Parts Distribution Centre, a facility designed to accelerate delivery times and enhance customer satisfaction across the continent.
Speaking at the 2026 Accelerate Beyond The Next Frontier Event, Ahmed Salih, Director in Charge of After-Sales for Africa and the Middle East, emphasized that the new warehouse is already transforming supply chains for African markets. “Previously, imports could take 80 to 90 days. Now, parts can be collected within five working days in Dubai, and urgent orders can ship the next day,” Salih explained.
The Dubai facility supplies over 30 markets in the Middle East and Africa, but Africa has become central to GWM’s growth plans. With rising demand on the continent, the company is increasing inventory of critical components, particularly for Ghana, including engines, transmissions, axles, and parts for SUVs and pickups.
“Customer satisfaction is our primary goal,” Salih noted. “We want cars to be on the road, moving, and providing a reliable ownership experience that rivals what customers receive from Japanese and Korean brands.”
The expansion is part of GWM’s broader 2026 agenda to strengthen its footprint across emerging markets. By improving service reliability and parts accessibility, the automaker aims to tackle one of the main challenges Chinese brands have historically faced in Africa: slow delivery times and underdeveloped after-sales networks.
Analysts say the move could shift perceptions of Chinese automakers in Africa, positioning GWM as a viable alternative to more established players, particularly in the growing SUV and pickup segments.
“With Africa’s auto market expanding rapidly, timely parts delivery and dependable service are critical,” Salih added. “This investment ensures that GWM owners enjoy a smooth and reliable driving experience, strengthening confidence in the brand.”
