The Ho Teaching Hospital (HTH) has marked a leadership transition with a ceremony honouring two of its pioneer figures, Dr. John Tampouri and Dr. John Korbuvi, whose stewardship helped shape the institution into a leading tertiary and teaching facility in the Volta Region.
At a send-off event attended by health officials, traditional leaders and staff, hospital management reflected on the foundation laid by the outgoing leaders and expressed confidence in building upon their legacy.
Dr. Hintermann Mbroh, Chief Executive Officer of HTH, described Dr. Tampouri—its foundation CEO—and Dr. Korbuvi, former Director of Pharmaceutical Services, as architects of the hospital’s growth and professional culture.
“HTH is better because of you,” he remarked, noting that their leadership continues to be reflected in the hospital’s systems, structures and standards of care.
Representing the Governing Board Chairman, Professor Lydia Aziato, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), commended Dr. Tampouri for playing a key role in securing the hospital’s recognition as a teaching institution. She also praised both retirees for their commitment to mentoring young professionals and strengthening human resource development.
Board Chairman Dr. Delanyo Dovlo highlighted the transformation witnessed under their tenure, citing improved systems, enhanced professionalism and a solid institutional framework for sustained progress. He encouraged management to continue drawing on their expertise when needed.
Emeritus Professor Fred Newton Binka, founding Vice-Chancellor of UHAS, also acknowledged Dr. Tampouri’s contributions to the university’s accreditation process, which has significantly enhanced clinical training opportunities for students.
The ceremony featured goodwill messages from representatives of the Ministry of Health, the Volta Regional Minister and other stakeholders, all underscoring the honourees’ dedication to excellence and patient-centred care.
Dr. Tampouri was praised for his personable leadership style, openness to innovation and encouragement of young professionals. Dr. Korbuvi, meanwhile, was recognised for strengthening pharmaceutical services and mentoring a new generation of pharmacists and healthcare workers.
In their farewell remarks, both leaders expressed appreciation to colleagues and family members for their support. Dr. Tampouri urged the new management team to pursue innovative strategies to advance the hospital’s mission, while Dr. Korbuvi acknowledged his mentor, Dr. Divine Azameti, for guiding his professional journey.
Formerly known as the Volta Regional Hospital (Trafalgar), Ho Teaching Hospital was established in 1999 and upgraded in 2019 to serve as the teaching hospital for UHAS. It remains a major referral centre providing specialised care, medical training and research services in the region.
