Bolgatanga Central Member of Parliament, Isaac Adongo, has defended President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to appoint Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson as Ghana’s Finance Minister, dismissing concerns that he was overlooked for the role.
His comments come in response to growing agitation among some of his constituents, who believe that he was a more suitable candidate for the Finance Ministry position. Supporters of Mr. Adongo have argued that he should have been given the nod instead of Dr. Ato Forson.
However, speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen on Thursday, February 27, Mr. Adongo acknowledged that Dr. Ato Forson’s extensive experience and seniority in parliamentary finance matters made him the logical choice for the position.
Mr. Adongo provided a detailed account of his parliamentary journey, highlighting that he has consistently worked under Dr. Ato Forson in finance-related roles.
- “Since I entered Parliament, I have always been behind Ato Forson in finance matters,” he stated.
- He explained that when he was first elected as an MP, Dr. Ato Forson was already serving as the Ranking Member on the Finance Committee, while he was just a member.
- In his second term, he was promoted to Deputy Ranking Member, while Ato Forson remained the Ranking Member.
- During a parliamentary reshuffle, Dr. Ato Forson was elevated to Minority Leader, and Mr. Adongo was then made the Ranking Member of the Finance Committee.
Furthermore, Mr. Adongo emphasized Dr. Ato Forson’s prior experience as a Deputy Finance Minister, making him well-prepared to lead the ministry.
While acknowledging the expectations of his supporters, Mr. Adongo urged them to remain patient, assuring them that his time for higher responsibilities would come.
“My time will come,” he assured, emphasizing his commitment to serving both his constituency and the country in any capacity.
His remarks were aimed at calming tensions among his supporters and reinforcing the importance of structured political progression in governance.
