The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Alumni Association – Ghana (JAAGHA) has inaugurated a new six-member executive team tasked with fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing, and innovation among Ghanaian professionals trained under JICA programs.
Speaking at the General Assembly meeting in Accra, Suzuki Momoko highlighted the critical role of human resource development in nation-building, noting that over 5,000 Ghanaians have benefited from JICA training in sectors ranging from agriculture and health to public administration and infrastructure.
Ms. Momoko emphasised that the alumni network not only equips participants with technical skills but also nurtures leadership, efficiency, teamwork, and dedication to public service, strengthening Ghana-Japan relations along the way. She pointed out that in 2027, Ghana and Japan will mark a century since Dr. Noguchi’s arrival in Accra, 70 years of diplomatic relations, and 50 years of JICA volunteer deployments—milestones reflecting the deepening bond between the two nations.
The newly sworn-in JAAGHA President, Lovia Afoakwa, pledged to lead with transparency and inclusiveness, focusing on member engagement, strategic partnerships, and initiatives that leverage alumni expertise to advance national development. She outlined plans to create platforms for innovation, dialogue, and institutional collaboration.
General Secretary Emmanuel Treku added that the association would prioritise initiatives that generate tangible benefits for both alumni and Ghanaian society.
The executive team includes Madam Lovia Afoakwa (President), Mr. Aaron Azu (Vice President), Mr. Emmanuel Treku (General Secretary), Madam Bernice Ofosu (Deputy General Secretary), Mr. Godfred Gobah (Treasurer), Madam Sarah Boama (Organising Secretary), and Mr. Godfried Ofoe Caesar (Co-opted Member).
The leadership transition signals a renewed focus on harnessing the expertise of JICA-trained professionals to strengthen human capital, drive innovation, and deepen the longstanding partnership between Ghana and Japan.
