Ghana captain Jordan Ayew is on his way to England to finalise a move to a club in Sheffield as he closes in on a return to competitive football.
The 34-year-old forward has travelled from Ghana and is expected to join either Sheffield United or Sheffield Wednesday, with his destination set to be confirmed after he arrives and completes the final stages of the transfer.
Ayew has been without a club since leaving Leicester City and is now nearing a return to regular football following months on the sidelines.
His departure from Leicester came before the World Cup after the club were relegated from the Championship, leaving the experienced Ghana international searching for a new challenge.
Several options have emerged during his search, but a proposed move to Blackburn Rovers has fallen through, while Southampton are also no longer in contention for his signature.
Ayew also explored a possible switch to Cyprus, holding talks with APOEL Nicosia. However, the discussions failed to produce an agreement as the Ghana captain remained keen on continuing his career in one of Europe’s major leagues.
With his journey to England now underway, Ayew is expected to settle his future shortly, with either Sheffield United or Sheffield Wednesday set to become his next club.
