Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group of Companies, has reiterated the importance of empowering indigenous African enterprises as catalysts for economic transformation, following the signing of a landmark waste management agreement with the City Government of Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed between the Jospong Group and the Kinshasa City Government, paves the way for a large-scale integrated waste management project that aims to revolutionise sanitation in the Congolese capital. The initiative will involve waste collection, transportation, recovery, and conversion into valuable by-products such as biochar—supporting both environmental sustainability and economic growth.
Provincial Minister for Environment and Sustainable Development, Léon Mulumba Mwana Nshiya, represented Kinshasa in signing the MoU, while Mrs. Florence Yawa Abbah signed on behalf of Dr. Agyepong. The event was graced by the Governor of Kinshasa, Daniel Bumba Lubaki, and senior officials from both parties.
Dr. Agyepong used the occasion to advocate for stronger policy support for local African companies, stressing that such enterprises have the potential to drive industrial growth, create jobs, and reshape the continent’s economic narrative. “We cannot wait for external saviours. Africa must lead its own development through innovation and collaboration,” he said.
Governor Lubaki hailed the agreement as a milestone for Kinshasa, with the potential to set a precedent for cities across the continent. “This is more than a waste management deal—it’s a model for sustainable urban transformation and a bold statement that Africa can lead in environmental innovation,” he said.
The project will also contribute to agriculture, carbon emission reduction, and green urban development through technologies like biochar production—demonstrating the multi-sectoral benefits of waste reuse.
Daniel Amuyaw Addo, a member of the Jospong delegation, echoed the company’s excitement and commitment. “This partnership is a testament to our pan-African vision of delivering world-class environmental solutions tailored to local needs,” he said.
With this agreement, Jospong Group strengthens its position as a leading force in Africa’s waste management sector, reinforcing its commitment to building a cleaner, greener, and more self-reliant continent.
