Karpowership Ghana Company Limited has been recognised at the 2026 Health, Environment, Safety and Security (HESS) Awards for what organisers described as exceptional performance in environmental protection and sustainable operational practices.
The company received two major awards — Best Environmental Protection Campaign and Best Company in Environmental Management Practices — highlighting its efforts to integrate sustainability into its energy production operations in Ghana.
According to a statement issued in Accra, the HESS Awards honour organisations that demonstrate innovation in environmental management, compliance with regulatory standards and consistent implementation of best environmental practices.
The recognition positions Karpowership Ghana as one of the leading companies in environmental stewardship within the country’s energy sector.
The company said the awards reflect its continued commitment to balancing reliable power generation with environmental responsibility, ensuring that its operations meet both national and international standards.
It noted that its environmental management system is aligned with requirements of the Environmental Protection Agency Ghana, the Ghana Standards Authority, the International Finance Corporation and the MARPOL Convention on marine pollution prevention.
As part of its operations, the company conducts regular monitoring of air quality, noise levels, wastewater discharge and sediment conditions to minimise environmental impact.
It also implements waste management systems, chemical handling protocols and resource efficiency measures covering fuel, water, lubricants and energy use, while tracking greenhouse gas emissions and conducting routine environmental audits.
Karpowership Ghana further engages staff through environmental awareness training and ensures that any identified environmental risks or non-compliance issues are promptly addressed.
The company’s sustainability approach also includes stakeholder engagement, community outreach programmes and corporate social responsibility initiatives aimed at promoting environmental awareness in host communities.
Speaking on the award, Communications Manager Sandra Amarquaye said the recognition underscores the company’s commitment to responsible operations alongside reliable electricity supply.
She added that environmental protection remains a core part of the company’s business model, supported by strong collaboration with regulators, partners and surrounding communities.
Ms Amarquaye dedicated the awards to employees and stakeholders, noting that their collective efforts have been central to the company’s achievements over the years.
Karpowership Ghana has previously been recognised at the HESS Awards for Best Fire Safety Management and Best HESS Integration, reinforcing its position as a key performer in health, safety, environment and security standards within Ghana’s energy industry.
