Former Chief Executive Officer of Dalex Finance, Ken Thompson, has praised the Mahama administration for presenting a budget that he describes as transparent, data-driven, and focused on addressing pressing economic issues.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s Face to Face on Tuesday, Thompson highlighted what he sees as a marked improvement in the structure and clarity of the budget compared to previous administrations.
“For the first time in nine years, they have presented a budget that is comprehensible and grounded in real data,” Thompson stated. He criticized past budgets for being overly self-congratulatory and lacking substantive measures to address the nation’s economic challenges.
Criticism of Previous Budgets
Thompson noted that previous government budgets often lacked clarity, focusing more on political rhetoric than practical solutions.
“Many of the past budgets were filled with praise for the government and grand promises that did not address the real economic issues facing the country,” he remarked.
According to Thompson, a national budget should be a tool for solving economic problems, not just a platform for political messaging. He emphasized that data-driven policies are essential for making informed economic decisions and ensuring sustainable development.
Call for Policy Continuity
While commending the Mahama administration for this new approach, Thompson also urged consistency in policy implementation, warning that a well-structured budget is only as good as its execution.
“The challenge now is ensuring that these policies are implemented effectively. A good budget must translate into tangible improvements in people’s lives,” he concluded.
His remarks have sparked discussions on the importance of transparency and accountability in fiscal planning, with many calling for future budgets to maintain this level of clarity and data-driven focus.
