The Ketu North Municipal Assembly, working with the Member of Parliament for the area, Mr Eric Edem Agbana, has rolled out an empowerment programme providing income-generating equipment to 11 persons with disabilities (PWDs) as part of efforts to strengthen economic inclusion in the municipality.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Municipal Chief Executive, Rev Martin Amenaki, forms the first phase of a broader support programme designed to promote self-reliance and improve livelihoods among PWDs.
The beneficiaries—six males and five females—were selected from communities across the municipality to ensure fair representation and equitable distribution of support.
Items distributed included freezers, ice chests, corn mill machines, cassava grating machines, welding and fabrication equipment, hand-operated sewing machines and deep freezers, among other vocational tools.
Officials explained that the equipment was tailored to match the individual skills and business interests of each beneficiary to ensure effective use and long-term sustainability.
Communities represented in the distribution included Devego, Avie, Ablorme, Afornyaga, Fiagbedu, Tadzewu, Bagome and Afife.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Rev Amenaki said the intervention was aimed at creating opportunities for PWDs to become economically independent and contribute meaningfully to society.
He encouraged beneficiaries to make good use of the tools, describing the support as a platform to improve their livelihoods and build stable incomes.
“This initiative is meant to empower you to succeed. We believe in your abilities and expect you to take full advantage of the opportunity,” he said.
He also confirmed that additional phases of the programme would be introduced to reach more persons with disabilities across the municipality.
Some beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the Assembly and the MP, noting that the equipment would significantly enhance their ability to generate income and support their families.
