The MedChoral Korle-Bu, a humanitarian choir formed by healthcare professionals at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, is seeking public support to raise funds for medical outreach programmes as part of its 10th anniversary celebration.
Founded by medical doctors, medical students, nursing students, and allied health professionals, the choir aims to combine the power of music with healthcare advocacy, using their voices to bring hope and healing to patients and communities.
Under the anniversary theme, “Chorus,” the group is calling for donations to help sustain its charity work, which has so far included supporting patients with childhood cancers, breast cancer, and mental health challenges at facilities like the Accra Psychiatric Hospital.
Kojo Poku Asiedu, the choir’s Director of Music, highlighted the impact of their song ministrations and their annual Christmas concert, “Venite Adoremus,” in raising funds for these critical healthcare needs.
“Our goal is to use this milestone as a foundation for greater advocacy, choral evangelism, and charity, building on our decade-long mission of touching lives through music,” Asiedu said.
Professor Joel Yarney, a senior medical consultant at Korle-Bu, also encouraged the choir to remain united and committed despite their demanding professional schedules. He emphasized the therapeutic power of music, drawing parallels to the biblical story of David calming King Saul with his harp, and praised the choir for their role in bringing comfort to patients.
As the choir marks this significant anniversary, it is appealing to the public, philanthropists, and corporate bodies to support their mission of using music as a tool for healing and hope in the healthcare community.
