Mobile Money Fintech LTD has begun a structured review of its mobile money agent network as part of efforts to strengthen compliance, enhance security, and protect users within Ghana’s expanding digital financial ecosystem.
The company says the ongoing exercise involves routine checks across its MoMo Agent platform, leading to temporary restrictions on some accounts suspected of breaching operational guidelines.
According to the firm, the compliance drive is aimed at safeguarding the integrity of the system and ensuring that agents adhere strictly to regulatory and operational standards.
The company explained that violations are being treated on a case-by-case basis, with minor infractions attracting warnings, while more serious breaches may result in suspension or permanent removal from the platform.
It added that some affected agents are being engaged individually, with cases under review and access restored where investigations show justification, suggesting a balance between enforcement and fairness.
Mobile Money Fintech LTD stressed that the move is necessary to protect the millions of users who rely on mobile money services for everyday transactions such as payments, remittances, savings, and other financial services.
The company also used the opportunity to remind agents of the importance of strict compliance, warning that the sustainability of the mobile money ecosystem depends on discipline and adherence to established rules.
Since its launch in 2009, the platform has grown into a major driver of financial inclusion in Ghana, serving over 17 million users and expanding beyond basic transfers into savings, loans, insurance, and other digital financial products.
The firm says the current compliance exercise forms part of a broader strategy to build a more secure and resilient digital financial system that supports economic activity while protecting customers.
