Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus has faced some of football’s most elite players, but when asked to name his toughest opponent, one name came to mind instantly—Thiago Alcantara.
In an interview with Rising Ballers on February 25, 2025, the West Ham United star praised the former Bayern Munich and Liverpool playmaker, describing his style as effortlessly elegant.
“He’s just different,” Kudus said. “The way he moves, controls the ball, sees the game—it’s like he’s playing a different sport. Too smooth, man.”
At just 24, Kudus has already built a reputation as one of the Premier League’s most exciting talents, dazzling at the 2022 World Cup and delivering standout performances for West Ham. Yet, despite his own growing stardom, he remains in awe of Thiago’s unique ability on the ball.
The two likely met during Kudus’ debut season in England when West Ham clashed with Liverpool in the Premier League or EFL Cup in 2023. Even in his final campaign before retiring in 2024, Thiago continued to display his trademark vision and finesse, despite battling injuries.
For Kudus—who thrives on explosive dribbling and physicality—Thiago’s measured, cerebral approach was something special.
While Kudus continues to shine for both club and country, his admiration for the Spanish maestro serves as a testament to Thiago’s influence on the game. As he prepares for Ghana’s World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar in March 2025, Kudus will be looking to channel some of that same elegance into his own performances.
