MTN Ghana’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Stephen Blewett, has reaffirmed the telecom giant’s commitment to empowering Ghana’s youth and driving inclusive digital growth through local innovation.
Speaking at a special event dubbed ‘Time with Stephen’ to mark his first anniversary as CEO, Mr. Blewett emphasized the transformative potential of Ghana’s youth and entrepreneurs in shaping the country’s digital future.
“The future of Ghana’s technology ecosystem lies in the hands of its own people. Supporting local digital solutions is not just an option—it is a necessity,” he stated.
His remarks come at a time when Ghana’s digital economy is poised for rapid expansion, fueled by increased mobile and data penetration, digital financial services, and ambitious projects such as the Ghana ICT Hub, a national initiative launched in 2023.
Mr. Blewett highlighted the ICT Hub project as a cornerstone of MTN Ghana’s vision for tech-driven development, noting its potential to create thousands of jobs, upskill young Ghanaians, and nurture homegrown innovations across sectors like health, agriculture, and education.
But he also issued a word of caution.
“We must ensure the hub doesn’t become just another ceremonial landmark. It should be buzzing with new ideas, startups, and solutions that position Ghana on the global innovation map,” he urged.
The CEO’s focus on youth-driven innovation aligns with MTN Ghana’s broader strategy to become a platform business that empowers users to create, collaborate, and grow. He shared that MTN is investing over $200 million annually into infrastructure development to improve connectivity and support digital transformation across the country.
“Our network is improving significantly. Ghanaians will see meaningful changes this year,” he assured, citing the company’s $1 billion investment over the past five years.
Under Blewett’s leadership, MTN Ghana has seen impressive growth, now serving over 28.4 million mobile subscribers, with 16.4 million data users and 16.5 million active mobile money customers.
More than a telecom operator, MTN is increasingly being viewed as a catalyst for entrepreneurship, youth development, and inclusive innovation. Mr. Blewett’s leadership has focused on building bridges between technology and people—ensuring that Ghana’s digital future is driven by Ghanaians themselves.
As he continues to champion operational excellence and stakeholder engagement, MTN Ghana remains committed to being more than just a service provider—it aims to be a partner in national development.
