MTN Ghana has intensified its support for the country’s healthcare sector through a nationwide initiative aimed at improving patient care, upgrading hospital infrastructure and providing financial relief for vulnerable patients.
The telecommunications company is implementing the intervention under its annual “21 Days of Y’ello Care” programme, which mobilises employees to volunteer their time and skills to support community development projects.
As part of this year’s activities, MTN Ghana employee volunteers, together with partners, undertook the refurbishment of hospital beds and furniture at the Maamobi General Hospital in Accra, with similar interventions expected across selected health facilities nationwide.
Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Stephen Blewett, said the initiative goes beyond infrastructure improvement and focuses on enhancing the dignity, comfort and recovery experience of patients receiving treatment.
According to him, hospital beds play a critical role in the healing process, and improving their condition contributes significantly to patient well-being and quality healthcare delivery.
He noted that the project reflects MTN’s commitment to creating meaningful impact by encouraging employees to actively participate in community transformation rather than relying solely on financial donations.
The refurbishment programme includes the repair, restoration and repainting of hospital beds, as well as the rehabilitation of furniture used in healthcare facilities.
Since the inception of the initiative, MTN Ghana has refurbished approximately 3,880 hospital beds across the country, helping to improve conditions in public health institutions.
In addition to infrastructure support, MTN Ghana has partnered with DOSH Health Insurance to assist patients who have completed treatment but remain unable to settle their hospital bills.
Under the partnership, DOSH Health Insurance will provide a GH¢1 million health support package to cover outstanding bills and offer continued health insurance coverage for beneficiaries.
Head of Sales and Marketing at DOSH Health Insurance, Belinda Amoo, said the initiative would ensure that vulnerable patients not only leave hospital free from financial burdens but also retain access to healthcare services for future medical needs.
The programme is expected to benefit about 100 patients across selected healthcare facilities nationwide.
Mr Blewett called on more corporate institutions to contribute to national development, particularly within the healthcare sector, stressing that collaborative efforts could significantly strengthen Ghana’s healthcare system and improve lives.
He said sustained partnerships between businesses and healthcare institutions remain essential to addressing critical challenges and ensuring quality healthcare for all.
Through the 21 Days of Y’ello Care programme, MTN Ghana continues to leverage employee volunteerism and strategic partnerships to deliver impactful interventions that support healthcare delivery and broader national development goals.
