Ghana will officially bid farewell to Apostle Emeritus Professor Kwadwo Safo, the celebrated inventor, industrialist and founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission, as his family has announced July 30 and 31, 2026, for his final funeral rites.
The announcement was made after a family meeting in Accra attended by former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo, her siblings and other relatives to finalise preparations for the burial of the revered religious leader and entrepreneur.
According to the family, funeral activities will commence on July 30 at Apostle Safo Suaye in Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region, while the main funeral ceremony will take place on July 31 at Independence Square in Accra. A thanksgiving service is also scheduled for August 8 in Kumasi, with the venue to be announced later.
The funeral is expected to draw thousands of mourners from across Ghana and beyond to honour a man widely regarded as one of Africa’s most influential innovators and champions of indigenous industrialisation.
Speaking after the meeting, Madam Adwoa Safo said the arrangements were designed to give Apostle Safo a befitting farewell in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to religion, science, technology, manufacturing and entrepreneurship.
Apostle Kwadwo Safo, affectionately known as the “Star of Africa,” passed away in 2025 at the age of 113, leaving behind a legacy that transformed perceptions about African innovation and self-reliance.
Through the establishment of the Kantanka Group of Companies, he became a symbol of homegrown industrial development, pioneering the local assembly of vehicles, machinery and electronic products. His vision inspired confidence in Ghana’s ability to manufacture and innovate on a global scale.
His contributions extended beyond the automobile sector. He promoted agricultural mechanisation through the production of farming equipment, advanced herbal medicine research and production, and invested heavily in technical and vocational skills training for young people.
Through the Kristo Asafo Mission, he also used music, drama and cultural productions to educate the public and promote African values and identity.
Beyond his achievements in industry and religion, Apostle Safo was widely respected for his philanthropy. Through scholarships, employment opportunities, skills training programmes and support for vulnerable communities, he impacted countless lives across the country.
Family members expressed gratitude to Ghanaians and sympathisers around the world for the outpouring of support since his passing and appealed for continued cooperation as preparations for the funeral enter their final stages.
As the nation prepares to celebrate his life, many are expected to reflect on the enduring legacy of a visionary whose work helped shape Ghana’s industrial, technological and spiritual landscape.
