The National Sports Authority (NSA) is preparing to launch a nationwide recruitment drive to fill over 450 vacant positions, pending financial approval from the Ministry of Finance. The initiative aims to bolster the Authority’s capacity to manage and develop sports across the country.
The recruitment comes after public scrutiny over the emergency hiring of 17 staff, whose appointments were later directed to be regularized through the Public Services Commission to ensure proper employment conditions.
Officials indicate that critical departments within the NSA—including coaching, grassroots development, research, estates management, security, IT, and marketing—currently face significant staffing gaps. Filling these roles is expected to enhance operational efficiency and strengthen service delivery nationwide.
Established under the Sports Act 2016 (Act 934), the NSA is responsible for promoting sports development, managing national sporting facilities, and providing technical support to federations and associations.
Under Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, the Authority has implemented reforms to improve governance, recover mismanaged assets, boost internally generated revenue, and expand international sports partnerships. The creation of a dedicated Operations Unit has also accelerated coordination and execution of key initiatives.
The proposed recruitment is viewed as a strategic step to ensure that Ghana’s sports sector benefits from a fully staffed, skilled workforce capable of supporting athletes, federations, and community sports development programs.
Officials believe that addressing staffing shortages will strengthen the management, infrastructure, and governance of sports, positioning Ghana for higher performance and broader participation at both national and international levels.
