Deputy National Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Osman Ayariga, has called on the youth of Akwatia to take the lead in ensuring a peaceful by-election on Tuesday, September 2.
Speaking at a community engagement with young people, Mr. Ayariga appealed to the youth not to allow themselves to be manipulated into engaging in electoral violence, stressing that their role was critical in safeguarding the constituency’s reputation.
“Do not let anyone use you as agents of violence. Let us all pursue peace, because in peace, the people of Akwatia will win, and democracy will win,” he advised.
Mr. Ayariga reassured residents that the police presence in the constituency was not to intimidate but to protect them, urging them to go about their activities confidently and turn out in large numbers on election day.
The Akwatia by-election, which will be contested by Solomon Kwame Asumadu of the NPP and Bernard Bediako of the NDC, has drawn national attention due to the constituency’s history as a political swing area.
In preparation, the Ghana Police Service has deployed over 600 officers, trained to manage election-related challenges, to maintain peace and ensure a credible outcome.
