Marilyn Maame Efua Houadjeto, the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), has set her sights on expanding and innovating the country’s tourism sector. With a background in client service, hospitality, journalism, event planning, and marketing, Houadjeto aims to build on the foundation laid by her predecessor, Akwasi Agyeman, while introducing new initiatives to further boost tourism’s economic contributions.
Speaking on Joy FM’s *Showbiz A-Z*, Houadjeto acknowledged Agyeman’s impact but emphasized her own aspirations for the role. “I pray to God that I am able to do the same and even more because we have similar backgrounds,” she said, underscoring her confidence in leveraging her expertise to drive growth.
One of the key areas she highlighted was cruise tourism, a sector she has prior experience in through a partnership with Sunseekers Tours to bring the first cruise ship tours to Ghana. Her interest aligns with ongoing discussions between the Minister for Tourism, Creative Arts & Culture, Dzifa Abla Gomeshie, and the Ghana Navy to develop the country’s cruise tourism industry.
Beyond that, Houadjeto is expected to introduce strategic initiatives to enhance Ghana’s appeal as a global travel destination. With a track record in marketing and events, she is poised to explore innovative ways to attract both domestic and international tourists while reinforcing Ghana’s status as a cultural and entertainment hub.
With Akwasi Agyeman pledging his support and an ambitious roadmap ahead, all eyes will be on Houadjeto as she navigates her new role and charts the future of Ghana’s tourism industry.
