Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi has been officially confirmed as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), securing a near-unanimous endorsement with 55 out of 56 votes cast by Assembly Members.
Boadi, a former Municipal Chief Executive of Obuasi during the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, returns to public office following his nomination by President John Dramani Mahama.
His appointment comes at a critical time for Kumasi, Ghana’s second-largest city, which is grappling with persistent challenges including congestion, poor sanitation, and structural issues at the Kejetia Market.
At the confirmation ceremony, Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene congratulated the new mayor and urged him to focus on long-standing urban issues. He emphasized that tackling congestion and sanitation problems should be top of the new mayor’s agenda.
Dr. Amoakohene also highlighted the urgent need to address problems plaguing the Kejetia Market, a key commercial hub in the city, which he said continues to face operational difficulties that hamper business and overall development in the metropolis.
He assured the KMA of the full support of the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council in its efforts to improve the living conditions and economic prospects of Kumasi residents.
With strong backing from Assembly Members and a clear directive from regional leadership, Mayor Boadi is expected to hit the ground running in addressing the city’s most pressing issues.
