The age-old debate over the best Jollof rice in West Africa found a winner at the 2025 Onga Jollof Battle – West African Edition, with Nigeria emerging victorious.
Organised by Onga Ghana, part of Promasidor Ghana Limited, the event brought together top chefs from six countries—Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Cameroon, and Niger—each showcasing their take on the iconic West African dish.
At the close of the competition, Nigeria’s team claimed the crown, earning GH₵50,000, a package of Promasidor products, and, most importantly, bragging rights as West Africa’s Jollof champion. Ghana finished second, followed by Senegal in third place.
The event highlighted not just culinary skills but also the rich cultural diversity and food heritage across the region. It drew food enthusiasts, media, and culinary experts, all eager to witness the contest and sample the region’s signature flavors.
Speaking to Citi News, Fiifi Intsiaba, Category Lead for Culinary at Promasidor Ghana, said, “The Onga Jollof Battle was a resounding success. It celebrates West Africa’s culinary richness and our commitment to delivering food products that reflect the tastes and preferences of the region.”
The competition, blending skill, creativity, and tradition, has once again reignited friendly rivalry among West African nations over who reigns supreme in the art of Jollof rice.
