Amid escalating tensions in Nkwanta South, municipal authorities and regional leaders are intensifying efforts to steer the community toward peace through dialogue rather than violence.
Municipal Chief Executive Joseph Kwame Antwi Awal has called on all factions embroiled in the conflict to abandon arms and embrace constructive conversations, underscoring peace as a prerequisite for meaningful development.
At a pivotal moment for the municipality, a high-level military delegation from the Southern Command, led by Brigadier General Isaac Nicholas Paintsil, engaged with faction leaders to reinforce the military’s neutral stance and its commitment to fostering stability. The delegation urged parties to seek peaceful solutions, warning that continued violence would only deepen divisions and stall progress.
Complementing these efforts, Oti Regional Minister John Kwadwo Gyeong reaffirmed the ban on festivals within Nkwanta townships to safeguard security, while encouraging communities to hold cultural celebrations outside the area. He highlighted the delicate balance between preserving cultural identity and maintaining peace.
The Minister further called on traditional authorities to actively mediate between conflicting groups, emphasizing their critical role in healing divisions and promoting harmony. He stressed that sustainable development in Nkwanta hinges on collective commitment to peace, urging all stakeholders to work together to realize the region’s full potential.
These coordinated efforts signal a unified front aiming to transform Nkwanta South from a hotspot of conflict into a model of peaceful coexistence and socio-economic growth.
