The New Patriotic Party has set in motion a nationwide exercise to reorganise its grassroots base, opening nominations for polling station executive positions as part of a broader internal restructuring drive.
The process, which began on April 20, is expected to run through a structured electoral calendar culminating in polling station elections scheduled between May 10 and May 16.
Speaking in Kadjebi in the Oti Region, Sataru Abdul Merigah said the exercise is a critical step in rebuilding the party’s operational strength at the local level.
Structured Timeline for Internal Elections
According to him, nominations will close on April 24, after which aspirants will undergo vetting from April 25 to April 30. Appeals processes will follow from May 1 to May 4, with notices of poll expected to be issued between May 6 and May 9.
Party members seeking to contest are required to obtain nomination forms from their respective constituency offices and complete all requirements within the stipulated timelines.
Focus on Grassroots Mobilisation
The exercise is aimed at strengthening polling station structures, which are considered the backbone of the party’s mobilisation and electoral strategy.
Sataru Abdul Merigah noted that effective organisation at the polling station level is essential for improving coordination, voter outreach, and overall party performance.
Call for Inclusive Participation
The party is also using the opportunity to promote inclusiveness, with a strong call for increased participation by women in internal leadership roles.
“We are encouraging all committed members, especially women, to take part in this process to deepen internal democracy,” he said.
Part of Broader Reorganisation Effort
The polling station elections form the foundation of the party’s wider internal electoral calendar, which is expected to reshape its structures ahead of future political contests.
Party officials believe that a strong and well-organised grassroots base will be key to enhancing efficiency and competitiveness in the years ahead.
