The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has announced a month-long national registration exercise aimed at strengthening the party’s grassroots base and preparing it for future internal contests.
The exercise, scheduled from March 1 to March 31, is designed to formalize the status of sympathizers by enrolling them as registered, paid-up members in good standing. According to the party leadership, the initiative forms part of a broader effort to build a comprehensive and digitized membership database to enhance planning and strategic decision-making.
Addressing supporters, Mr. Kodua stressed that only members who complete the registration process and settle their dues will be eligible to contest executive positions at the polling station, constituency, regional, and national levels. He described the exercise as a critical step toward reinforcing internal democracy and ensuring credible leadership selection processes.
Beyond eligibility to contest, registered members will gain official recognition within the party structure. The General Secretary also underscored the inclusive nature of the exercise, noting that special arrangements have been made for members in the diaspora to register through international branches.
Responding to concerns about alleged internal favoritism, Mr. Kodua dismissed claims that certain executives would be protected or shielded from competition. He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to merit-based leadership and equal opportunity, assuring members that no one would be barred from contesting internal elections provided they meet the registration requirements.
He further pledged strict adherence to the guidelines governing the exercise, promising transparency and fairness throughout the restructuring process.
The nationwide drive signals the NPP’s push to consolidate its base, modernize its membership system, and set the stage for competitive but orderly internal elections.
