The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has raised concerns over what it describes as the unexplained arrest and current whereabouts of its Agona West Organiser, David Essandoh, following a social media post linked to discussions on the country’s “dumsor” situation.
NPP National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, said the party is deeply worried after Essandoh was allegedly picked up on May 11, 2026, by unidentified security personnel shortly after he shared a post referencing “Dumsor is back” alongside an image of former President John Dramani Mahama.
Speaking on Joy News and monitored by MyNewsGh, Nana B said efforts by the party to locate Essandoh have so far been unsuccessful, adding that even security agencies contacted claimed no knowledge of his arrest.
“We truly don’t know where he is. This is serious, and it looks like the dark days are creeping back,” he said, describing the situation as alarming.
He explained that the issue began after the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) reportedly invited Essandoh over what authorities considered a “false publication” on social media.
According to Nana B, party lawyers engaged the CID to clarify the basis of the allegations, but the explanation received raised further concerns within the party.
He said he was surprised that a social media post expressing an opinion about the return of “dumsor” was being treated as a criminal matter.
“Somebody posted on social media saying ‘Dumsor is back.’ He has not made any criminal statement,” he stressed.
Nana B further alleged that armed individuals later arrived at Essandoh’s location while he was with friends and took him away without informing his family or party officials of his destination.
He added that subsequent checks with the BNI, CID, and National Security yielded no information on his whereabouts.
The NPP says it has formally reported the matter to the police and will continue to demand clarity while intensifying efforts to trace the missing party organiser.
