Kingsley Bonsu Kyeretwie, Second Vice-chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Manhyia South, has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of misrepresenting Ghana’s economic realities, calling for transparency on job creation and inflation figures.
Speaking on Kumasi-based Angel FM, Mr. Kyeretwie argued that President John Mahama’s statistics on employment were misleading. “The President has clearly lied. He used statistics to talk about inflation, but the same statistics show the jobs created were about 300,000, not one million,” he asserted.
He urged young people to challenge public claims they consider inaccurate, saying, “We, the youth, must always speak the truth. And the truth now is that the President lied about the number of people he has employed.”
While acknowledging official data suggesting a reduction in inflation, Mr. Kyeretwie questioned whether ordinary Ghanaians were actually benefiting. He highlighted that decreases in fuel prices had largely helped private car owners, while public transport fares — used by the majority — remained high.
“These are the masses,” he said, “and they should be the ones benefiting from the system.” His comments reflect growing scrutiny over how economic policies are translating into tangible improvements for everyday citizens.
