Mount Mary Demonstration Junior High School has received a boost in its ICT education following the donation of three Lenovo laptops by engineer and telecommunications consultant, Mr Eric Aryetey, an alumnus of the school.
The donation was made after an assessment visit revealed significant gaps in ICT infrastructure, particularly the lack of basic digital tools needed to support effective teaching and learning.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Aryetey said he initially planned to mobilise support through his former classmates but opted to personally provide the laptops due to the urgency of the school’s needs.
He expressed hope that the gesture would be well maintained and serve as a catalyst for further support. “The best outcome is for the school to maintain the laptops and use them effectively to teach the students. This will motivate us to come back and do more,” he said.
Mr Aryetey, who also intends to roll out annual mentorship programmes for students, said he was confident the school could regain its former academic strength, particularly in ICT.
He stressed the need for practical ICT training supported by modern tools such as projectors, printers, and scanners, adding that the school currently lacks a functional ICT laboratory and well-equipped library.
He further appealed to old students and stakeholders to support efforts to equip the school with about 40 laptops and other digital resources to establish a fully functional ICT lab.
The Headmaster of the school, Mr Desmond Dedoo, expressed appreciation for the donation, noting that ICT tools had become essential for modern education.
He said the school had previously relied on teachers’ personal laptops for ICT lessons due to limited resources, and assured that the donated equipment would be properly maintained and put to effective use.
Mr Dedoo also appealed for additional support from government, alumni, and development partners to strengthen ICT teaching and learning in the school.
