President of the Online Publishers Association of Ghana (OPAG), Mr. Michael Petit Mawugbe, popularly known as Efo Mawugbe, has been appointed as Chairman of the Jury for the Journalism for Peace and Social Cohesion (JPSC) Awards.
The appointment places him at the head of a five-member regional panel drawn from Ghana, Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso, and Côte d’Ivoire, tasked with assessing submissions and selecting winners for the continental awards scheme.
Organisers say his selection was influenced by his journalistic experience and contributions at the Sahel Peace Initiative (SPI) Summit held in Bamako, Mali, where he reportedly delivered strong input on media development and regional cooperation.
Mr. Mawugbe, known for his advocacy for digital literacy and his stance against misinformation and disinformation, is expected to oversee the evaluation of entries aimed at promoting peace, social cohesion, and responsible journalism across the sub-region.
Speaking on his appointment, he described it as an honour and a milestone not only for himself but also for Ghana’s media landscape.
He noted that the recognition reflects growing confidence in Ghana’s media space and its performance in global media freedom assessments.
The JPSC Awards are organised under the Episcopal Commission for Justice and Peace of Burkina Faso (CJP-Burkina), an implementing body of the Sahel Peace Initiative, with support from Catholic Relief Services (CRS).
