The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has moved swiftly to address internal tensions by hauling its Deputy Director of Communications, Ernest Owusu Bempah, before the National Disciplinary Committee over social media remarks deemed contrary to party guidelines.
A statement released on Monday, April 22, 2025, and signed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, confirmed that Mr. Bempah’s online commentary violated an existing directive that bars party officials from making public statements likely to stir division or disaffection within the party.
Though details of the specific comments were not disclosed, the party emphasized that its directive was clear and binding on all members, particularly as it strengthens internal cohesion ahead of the crucial 2024 general elections.
“Mr. Owusu Bempah has been referred to the National Disciplinary Committee for appropriate action,” the statement read.
The move is seen as a signal of the party’s readiness to enforce discipline and maintain a united front amid heightened political activity. Party insiders say the leadership is keen on curbing any conduct that could fracture its electoral fortunes or undermine public confidence in its internal order.
The NPP’s decision to act swiftly is likely to resonate throughout its ranks, reinforcing that no individual is above the party’s code of conduct, especially in this critical political season.
