In a move to reinforce Ghana’s commitment to open governance, Mr. Emmanuel Akwasi Bedzrah, Chairman of the Parliamentary Open Government Partnership (OGP) Caucus, led a delegation to engage with the National OGP Steering Committee. The meeting focused on enhancing collaboration to advance transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in governance.
According to a statement from Mr. David Sebastian Damoah, Director of Media Relations at the Parliamentary Service, discussions emphasized strategic partnerships, public awareness campaigns, and advocating for increased funding for the Public Sector Reforms Secretariat, which houses the OGP secretariat in Ghana.
“The meeting aimed to explore avenues for collaboration to ensure effective implementation of Ghana’s OGP commitments, a global initiative launched in 2011 to promote transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness in governance,” the statement said.
The Parliamentary OGP Caucus, established in November 2023, comprises Members of Parliament from both Majority and Minority sides, committed to promoting open government principles in administrative processes. The Caucus is tasked with supporting Ghana’s national OGP agenda and ensuring that open governance practices are embedded across governmental systems.
Representatives from government and civil society form the National Steering Committee, making it a central stakeholder in driving transparency initiatives and strengthening citizen engagement across the country.
