Ghana’s Electoral Commission is set for a leadership reshuffle following the resignation of one of its Deputy Chairpersons and the retirement of another senior official.
President John Dramani Mahama has formally accepted the resignation of Dr Bossman Asare, who served as Deputy Chairperson in charge of Corporate Affairs. His departure will take effect on 31 July 2026.
Presidential Spokesperson and Minister of State for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, confirmed the development at a press briefing at the Presidency, noting that Dr Asare’s decision was voluntarily made to allow him return to full-time academic work at the University of Ghana.
In a separate but related development, Mr Samuel Tettey, the Commission’s Deputy Chairperson responsible for Operations, has reached the mandatory retirement age and will be exiting office in line with public service regulations.
According to Mr Kwakye Ofosu, President Mahama has acknowledged Mr Tettey’s retirement and has already nominated a successor to ensure continuity in the Commission’s operations.
The Presidency expressed gratitude to both Dr Asare and Mr Tettey for their long-standing service, highlighting their contributions to the strengthening of Ghana’s electoral and democratic processes.
The changes are expected to pave the way for new leadership at the Commission as preparations continue for future electoral activities.
