Delegates at the 7th National Delegates Conference of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) have voted decisively for change, electing Prosper Tachie as the new National President of the association.
The election, held at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) auditorium, saw Mr. Tachie emerge with a commanding majority, securing 436 votes, representing 61.75 per cent of the total valid ballots cast.
Incumbent President Rev. Isaac Owusu placed second with 266 votes (37.78 per cent), while the third candidate, Charles K. Amponsah, garnered two votes, accounting for 0.28 per cent of the total.
Out of 706 votes cast, 704 were declared valid, with two rejected, underscoring a largely smooth and orderly electoral process.
Mr. Tachie’s victory gives him a strong mandate from GNAT delegates as he takes over leadership of the association at a time when teachers continue to advocate for improved working conditions, fair compensation, and stronger engagement with education policymakers.
The outcome of the election signals a new chapter for GNAT, with members expressing optimism that the president-elect will advance the interests of teachers nationwide and strengthen the association’s role in shaping Ghana’s education sector.
