Ghanaian international Tariq Lamptey has penned a new one-year contract with Brighton & Hove Albion in a move that signals the club’s continued faith in the talented but injury-plagued fullback.
The new deal, valued at over £2 million, will keep the 24-year-old at the Amex Stadium until June 2026, as the club doubles down on its commitment to nurture and reintegrate Lamptey into its evolving tactical system under new head coach Fabian Hürzeler.
“We’re delighted Tariq is staying with us,” Hürzeler said. “He wants to help the team achieve our targets and gives us great options in wide areas. We are looking forward to Tariq being part of our journey next season.”
Backing a Resilient Talent
Lamptey’s journey at Brighton has been marked by brilliant flashes of pace and attacking intent—attributes that made him one of the Premier League’s most exciting young fullbacks after arriving from Chelsea’s academy in January 2020. However, his momentum has been repeatedly stalled by injuries, limiting him to 122 appearances over five seasons.
Despite these setbacks, the club’s decision to extend his contract underscores Brighton’s belief in his long-term potential and strategic value, particularly with their increasing emphasis on high-tempo, wing-driven football under Hürzeler.
National Prospects and Club Vision Align
Lamptey, who switched allegiance from England to Ghana in 2022, is also looking to reassert himself on the international stage as the Black Stars prepare for major tournaments. The stability of a renewed club role is expected to bolster his prospects with the national team.
The extension marks not just a contract renewal but a vote of confidence in a player whose talent remains undeniable—and whose next chapter could yet see him become a cornerstone of both club and country.
