The newly installed Sub-Divisional Chief of Sogakope in the Fievie Traditional Area, Togbe Kuma III, has pledged to lead with fairness, preserve the customs of the people and pursue development initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of residents.
Togbe Kuma III made the commitment during his outdooring and installation ceremony at Sogakope, where he was also joined by the newly installed Queenmother, Mama Kesena Liliasidzi II, in assuming their traditional roles.
The installation ceremony was performed by the Mankralo and Awadada of the Fievie Traditional Area, Togbe Dagadu IV, on behalf of the Paramount Chief and President of the Fievie Traditional Council, Togbega Agama Amata IV.
In his acceptance speech, Togbe Kuma III described his installation as a call to service rather than a personal achievement, stressing that the stool represented a sacred responsibility to serve both current and future generations.
“I accept this responsibility with respect to our customs and with a clear mind for the work ahead,” he stated.
The chief emphasised that unity would remain central to his administration, noting that communities could only achieve meaningful progress when residents worked together towards common goals.
He said a united community would be better positioned to improve education, expand economic opportunities and promote peaceful coexistence.
“When we speak with one voice, we build schools that stand, markets that thrive and homes where our children feel safe,” Togbe Kuma III said.
He assured residents that his leadership would be guided by inclusiveness, consultation and consensus-building, while pledging to ensure fair justice delivery and transparent management of community resources.
The newly installed chief also promised to protect the cultural heritage and traditions of the Fievie Traditional Area while supporting innovative ideas that could improve livelihoods and accelerate development.
He encouraged the youth to actively participate in shaping the future of Sogakope, describing them as important partners in community growth.
Togbe Kuma III further appealed to elders and residents to offer their guidance and support as he begins his tenure.
Call for Responsible Leadership
Congratulating the new chief, Togbe Atsuga Sogah II, Dufiaga and Divisional Chief of Sogakope, reminded him that traditional leadership required sacrifice, humility and commitment to the wellbeing of the people.
He urged Togbe Kuma III to remain loyal to the Amata Stool and the authority of Togbega Agama Amata IV, stressing that divisional and sub-divisional stools derive their legitimacy from the Paramount Stool.
Togbe Atsuga Sogah II charged the new chief to embrace an open-door leadership style and collaborate with traditional authorities, assembly members and other stakeholders to promote peace and development.
He urged him to focus on key areas including education, healthcare, employment creation and sustainable development.
The Divisional Chief also appealed to residents of Sogakope to support the new traditional leader with their cooperation, advice and prayers to enable him to successfully execute his duties.
