The United States Embassy in Accra has hosted a California Wine Trade Promotion Event, providing Ghanaian importers, retailers, and hospitality businesses with direct access to U.S. wine producers and opportunities to expand their product offerings.
The event featured 10 California wineries showcasing over 100 wine varieties from premier regions including Napa Valley, Sonoma County, Lodi, Monterey, Paso Robles, and Santa Barbara. Participants explored distribution partnerships and business collaborations aimed at increasing U.S. agricultural trade in Ghana.
Mr. Rolf Olson, Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy, said the initiative formed part of broader efforts to deepen economic cooperation between the two countries and promote U.S. agricultural products. He highlighted that the promotion also aligns with celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence.
“The United States values its long-standing trade relationship with Ghana and is committed to supporting market access for American agricultural goods,” Mr. Olson stated, encouraging Ghanaian businesses to explore new opportunities with American producers.
Organised by the Wine Institute (California Wines) in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS), the event marks the first major market entry for California Wines in Ghana. It is part of a West Africa promotional tour that includes stops in Cameroon and Côte d’Ivoire.
The U.S. Meat Export Federation also participated, reflecting ongoing efforts to strengthen U.S. agricultural exports and enhance Ghanaian access to high-quality American food and beverage products.
The event is expected to create business linkages, expand Ghana’s import options, and strengthen U.S.–Ghana trade relations in the agricultural sector.
