The Hohoe E.P. Senior High School (HEPSS) has become the vibrant epicentre of youth development and regional unity as it hosts the 3rd Northern Zone Inter-School Sports Festival, drawing together 15 senior high schools from five Municipal and District Assemblies in the Volta Region.
Framed under the powerful theme, “Sports; an effective tool for discipline and excellent academic work,” the festival transcends mere competition, positioning itself as a platform for nurturing discipline, teamwork, and academic focus among students.
In his address during the festival’s opening, Mr. Franklin Amesimeku, Headmaster of HEPSS and Chairman of the Northern Zone Sports Federation, highlighted the integral role of discipline in achieving academic success, noting that sporting events serve as catalysts for instilling values essential for both the classroom and life.
“This festival is not just a series of games,” he said, “It is a celebration of human potential, resilience, and the pursuit of excellence.”
The schools participating include a blend of well-established and emerging institutions such as Bishop Herman College, Kpando SHS, Anfoega SHS, Vakpo SHS, Peki SHS, Alavanyo SHTS, Santa Esther Girls SHS, and others, all converging in Hohoe to test their strength and unity through sports.
The Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Prosper Kumi, lauded the event as a celebration of youthful energy, regional harmony, and character-building. He encouraged students to embrace the values of fair play, respect, and mutual support, urging them to carry the lessons from the field into their academic and personal lives.
“This is more than a competition; it’s a learning experience, a platform to forge unity and develop future leaders,” Mr. Kumi said.
The festival is expected to continue over several days, with athletes competing across various disciplines in an atmosphere of peace, camaraderie, and high spirits. Organisers and local authorities are hopeful that the event will not only uncover hidden athletic talents but also reinforce the essential link between discipline in sports and success in education.
