In a demonstration of growing intra-African cooperation, a Zimbabwean Parliamentary delegation recently visited Accra to engage with Ghanaian officials on advancing education, innovation, and industrial development.
Led by Members of Parliament and accompanied by committee officials and embassy representatives, the delegation met with Ghana’s Minister of Education, Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, to explore Ghana’s progressive education reforms and dynamic innovation ecosystem.
Mr. Iddrisu highlighted Ghana’s strategic efforts to align education with national development goals, emphasizing technical and vocational training, STEM education, and digital transformation as key pillars driving the country’s growth.
The delegation’s Chairperson, Dr. Thokozani Khupe, expressed admiration for Ghana’s integration of education with industry and entrepreneurship, particularly through innovation hubs that foster sustainability and reduce dependency on government funding.
“This visit is about learning and collaboration,” Dr. Khupe stated. “We aim to build partnerships that will strengthen Zimbabwe’s education system and innovation capacity for economic resilience.”
The exchange of ideas extended to governance models in tertiary education and leveraging science and technology to stimulate economic growth—critical areas both nations recognize as vital for Africa’s future.
As part of the visit, Zimbabwean delegates will tour Ghanaian tertiary institutions, innovation centres, and industrial enclaves to observe firsthand how policies translate into impactful practices.
This engagement reflects a broader trend of African countries joining forces to share knowledge, best practices, and jointly drive sustainable development through education and innovation.
Both Ghana and Zimbabwe reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral ties, aiming to leverage each other’s strengths for mutual progress in education and industrial advancement.
