Ghanaian para-athlete Zinabu Issah has once again made history, propelling Ghana’s flag high on the international sports stage with a record-breaking gold medal performance at the 2025 World Para Athletics (WPA) Grand Prix in Marrakech, Morocco.
Competing in the F57 women’s discus throw, Issah stunned spectators with a remarkable 29.25-meter throw, not only clinching the gold but also setting a new national and personal best.
This latest achievement marks a major leap forward for Ghana in global para-athletics and signals the country’s growing competitiveness in the sport.
A Symbol of Ghanaian Excellence
Issah’s performance was more than just a personal victory — it was a national moment of pride. Her throw shattered her previous record of 26.66 meters, which she had set just a year earlier at the 2024 WPA Grand Prix, also in Marrakech. The continuous upward trend in her throws underscores her relentless dedication and the increasing potential of Ghanaian athletes on the world stage.
“Zinabu Issah is not just breaking records — she’s breaking barriers,” said a Ghana Para Sports official. “Her achievements are inspiring a new generation of athletes in Ghana.”
Building Momentum for Ghana’s Para-Sport Future
Zinabu’s trajectory is now closely aligned with upcoming major events, including the 2025 WPA World Championships and the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where she’s expected to be a leading contender.
From a 24.39-meter throw at the 2024 Paris Paralympics qualifiers to her current 29.25 meters, Issah’s progress embodies what’s possible with support, discipline, and national investment in para-sport infrastructure.
Her continued dominance is not only creating opportunities for Ghana in international competitions but also shining a light on the immense talent within the country’s para-athletic community.
