The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Akan Constituency of the Oti Region has successfully vetted 20 aspirants seeking to contest various executive positions ahead of the party’s upcoming Constituency Executive Elections.
The exercise, conducted on Saturday, marks a key milestone in the party’s internal electoral process to elect new constituency executives who will oversee the party’s affairs over the next four years.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Kadjebi, the Akan Constituency Research and Elections Officer, Mr. Bashiru Sabitiou Yeziru, disclosed that three executive positions—Constituency Chairman, Constituency Secretary and Nasara Coordinator—would be filled unopposed.
He said the remaining positions would be keenly contested, with two aspirants each vying for the offices of First Vice-Chairman, Second Vice-Chairman, Deputy Secretary, Organiser, Youth Organiser, Women Organiser and Communications Officer.
According to Mr. Yeziru, the Treasurer position has attracted the highest number of contestants, with three party members seeking the slot.
He expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of all aspirants during the vetting process and commended them for demonstrating discipline and respect throughout the exercise.
Mr. Yeziru urged contestants and their supporters to maintain the prevailing peace by conducting issue-based campaigns free from insults, intimidation, personal attacks and other forms of misconduct.
“The NPP is one family, and we expect all aspirants and their supporters to uphold the party’s values of unity, respect and discipline before, during and after the elections,” he said.
He expressed confidence that the elections would be conducted peacefully and appealed to party members to rally behind those elected to strengthen the party’s structures in the constituency.
Mr. Yeziru also encouraged all contestants to accept the outcome of the elections in good faith and work together in the interest of party unity and growth as the NPP prepares for future political activities.
