The Ghana 24-Hour Economy Authority says it has signed four major bankable projects aimed at driving industrial expansion and creating approximately 1.7 million jobs under its national economic transformation agenda.
Officials say the initiatives form part of a broader strategy to accelerate manufacturing growth, strengthen infrastructure development, and enhance Ghana’s competitiveness within the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Speaking on Channel One TV during the Citi Business Festival on June 11, 2026, Chief Export Development Officer of the Authority, Gabriel Opoku-Asare, said the programme has moved beyond policy discussions into implementation.
“Our goal is to create 1.7 million jobs by 2028 and double manufacturing’s share of GDP from 10 percent to 20 percent. Over the last 90 days, we’ve signed four bankable projects,” he stated.
He explained that the agreements cut across key sectors, with energy forming a central pillar due to its importance to industrial development.
Among the projects is the 1.4 billion US dollar Buipe Solar Power initiative, alongside a 6.4 billion dollar Cassava Bioenergy project located in Buipe and Damongo.
He also disclosed a 300 million dollar oil palm plantation project around Kabonwule designed to support agro-industrial expansion and value addition.
In addition, two private operators have been identified to develop the Tamale Cargo Port, which is expected to enhance logistics and facilitate trade under AfCFTA.
Mr. Opoku-Asare further noted that the programme includes complementary flagship projects such as the Volta Lake Transportation System, the Asutuare Pharmaceutical and Garments Park, the Sanga Agro-Ecological Corridor, and a national poultry initiative.
He emphasised that the strategy is not limited to Ghana’s domestic market but is designed to serve a wider regional population.
“We are not only looking at the 30 million people in Ghana, but also the 400 million within West Africa and the 1.4 billion population across Africa,” he said.
The Authority maintains that these investments are key to positioning Ghana as a leading industrial and trade hub under AfCFTA, while expanding employment opportunities across multiple sectors.
