Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah has confirmed that the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has resumed a previously suspended officer recruitment process following a comprehensive investigation into its integrity and fairness.
The enlistment, which was paused after the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration assumed office, is now progressing with only candidates who were deemed successful under a meticulous review process.
Announcing the development on social media, Dr. Boamah stated:
“The Ghana Armed Forces has begun processing qualified and successful applicants from previous enlistment processes for Officer positions. Only successful applicants — after a thorough, surgical and profoundly revealing investigation — are being contacted. Unsuccessful ones are also being notified.”
The Defence Minister’s remarks suggest the earlier process may have been marred by irregularities, prompting a clean-up before reactivating the recruitment pipeline.
In a move to boost manpower within the Armed Forces, Dr. Boamah also disclosed that a new officer enlistment exercise will soon begin, alongside a fresh intake for soldiers.
“A new round of enlistment for Officer Corps will commence very soon, and recruitment for soldiers is also imminent. Stay tuned for application details and requirements. Join the Ghana Armed Forces and serve your country!”
The renewed recruitment effort signals the government’s focus on transparency, merit-based selection, and strengthening Ghana’s security architecture through strategic personnel intake.=
