TEIN Members Express Discontent Over Lack of Appointments in Mahama’s Government

Tensions are brewing within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as members of the party’s Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) express frustration over being sidelined in political appointments despite their significant contributions to the party’s 2024 electoral victory.

During his campaign, President John Dramani Mahama reportedly assured TEIN members, particularly their coordinators, that they would not be overlooked in government appointments. However, following his victory, many within TEIN feel neglected as key positions are filled without their inclusion.

The dissatisfaction was amplified by a statement from Deputy National TEIN Coordinator, Sharif Mohammed Ayedakew, who voiced concerns about the lack of recognition for the party’s youth organizers.

“In the recent elections, youth engagement played a central role, with TEIN students across the country working tirelessly to ensure victory. However, despite their grassroots contributions, TEIN coordinators at both national and regional levels have not been considered for positions in the new government,” he stated in a social media post.

Ayedakew warned that this exclusion could demoralize the very group that played a crucial role in mobilizing support for the party. He stressed that if TEIN members continue to feel overlooked, it could impact their willingness to engage in future campaigns.

Adding to their frustration is the appointment of celebrities to influential roles in the government, despite their limited involvement in grassroots mobilization. Many TEIN members view this as a disconnect between rewarding visibility and appreciating the hard work of party loyalists who were instrumental in securing victory.

The growing discontent raises concerns about how the NDC leadership will address internal grievances, particularly among its youthful support base, ahead of future elections.
