Former Anyaa Sowutuom MP, Dr. Adomako Kissi, says the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) decision to opt out of the Tamale Central by-election is a deliberate move to conserve resources for constituencies where the party stands a realistic chance of victory.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Tuesday, August 12, Dr. Kissi explained that internal analysis showed the seat, a long-standing stronghold of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), offered little prospect for an NPP win.
“This is not necessarily about the death. The numbers for Tamale Central are not favourable, and as a serious political party, all the hustle related to a by-election there wouldn’t be worth it,” he said.
He noted that Tamale Central has consistently been held by the NDC and is expected to remain so, making it a low-priority battleground for the ruling party. “You choose your battles, so the NPP has chosen theirs,” he remarked.
Dr. Kissi stressed that the move should be understood as a strategic allocation of political capital rather than an act of political goodwill. “This is not a favour but a pragmatic decision made, and out of all of this, it is the future that matters,” he said.
According to him, the NPP will channel its campaign resources and organisational energy toward constituencies where the party has competitive advantages, ensuring a more efficient path toward electoral gains.
