Newly appointed envoys have been tasked to place economic diplomacy at the heart of their mandate by aggressively promoting Ghana as a premier investment destination.
At the just-ended Conference of Heads of Mission and Orientation for New Envoys in Accra, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Simon Madjie, emphasized that the future of Ghana’s diplomacy must go beyond political engagement to securing foreign direct investment (FDI) and driving inclusive economic growth.
Mr. Madjie urged the diplomats to act as frontline “investment ambassadors,” actively marketing district-level opportunities and flagship initiatives such as the 24-Hour Economy, the Accelerated Export Development Programme (24H+), and The Big Push infrastructure drive. These, he said, are pivotal to Ghana’s transformation agenda.
He highlighted Ghana’s competitive advantages, including its stable democracy, sound legal regime, and resilient macroeconomic fundamentals, which continue to inspire investor confidence.
“Investment promotion must become an integral component of our diplomatic work. Our missions abroad represent the first point of contact for potential investors, and their ability to tell Ghana’s story compellingly will determine how much capital we attract,” Mr. Madjie stressed.
He further called for a strong partnership between GIPC and Ghana’s foreign missions to ensure equitable distribution of investments across all regions, thereby reducing disparities and spreading prosperity nationwide.
The conference, organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was aimed at reorienting Ghana’s diplomatic corps towards advancing the government’s economic agenda on the global stage.
