The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reinforced its directive for the recall of Diplomatic and Service Passports issued under the previous administration, warning of strict consequences for non-compliance.
Following an initial announcement on January 15, 2025, and a directive from the Office of the President, the Ministry has revealed that 404 Diplomatic Passports and 387 Service Passports remain unreturned. Holders have until March 17, 2025, to surrender them to the Legal and Treaties Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The directive applies to a range of former officials, including ex-ministers and their spouses, former members of Parliament, retired justices, past regional ministers, and officials previously associated with the National Cathedral Project, among others. Businessmen, entrepreneurs, and former government functionaries who no longer serve in an official capacity are also required to comply.
The Ministry has cautioned that failure to meet the deadline will result in immediate cancellation of the passports, and affected documents will be placed on a Stop-Watch List. This means they will be flagged for confiscation at all Ghanaian entry and exit points.
By reiterating this directive, the Ministry aims to ensure compliance with the Passports and Travel Certificates Act, 1967 (NLCD 155) and maintain the integrity of Ghana’s diplomatic travel documents.
