Former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament (MP), Sarah Adwoa Safo, has attributed her loss in the recent parliamentary primaries to what she describes as a misunderstanding by her party.
In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen, she suggested that party officials misinterpreted her actions, leading to punitive measures that ultimately cost her the opportunity to contest.
“The party misunderstood me and decided to punish me, and that cost me my primaries,” she remarked on Tuesday, February 18.
Safo believes that her loss was not just about internal party disagreements but part of a broader trend of challenges faced by female politicians in Ghana. She argued that women in politics often face harsher scrutiny and judgment, which may have played a role in her defeat.
“That is why I stated earlier that we have fewer female lawmakers in Parliament,” she noted, underscoring the need for more support and fair treatment for women in leadership.
Despite acknowledging that some party officials may have felt slighted by her past actions, she insisted that she had made efforts to express remorse. However, she believes the lingering negative perception ultimately worked against her.
Her remarks highlight ongoing conversations about gender dynamics in Ghanaian politics and the need for more inclusive and supportive political structures.
