Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has urged state media under the Office of Government Communications to prioritise accuracy and uphold high ethical standards in their reporting, stressing that public trust depends on the credibility of information disseminated.
During a working visit to the office on Tuesday, March 17, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang cautioned against the publication of distorted or sensationalised content, highlighting the need for factual, balanced, and respectful journalism. She emphasized that media organisations play a crucial role in shaping public confidence in state institutions.
The Vice President also encouraged news agencies to embrace innovative storytelling methods to meet evolving audience demands, saying dynamic approaches can enhance both reach and public engagement.
Her remarks come amid public concern over the circulation of graphic footage from a recent helicopter crash in Tema, which sparked debate about ethical standards and the need to protect human dignity in news reporting.
“…We are always looking at ways in which you can improve, not just for your agency, but for our beloved country, Ghana,” she told media personnel, urging them to continue delivering trustworthy news while exploring creative approaches to reporting.
